Earth Hour is the largest popular environmental movement in the world, inspired by a shared desire to protect the health of the planet and its diverse eco-systems. The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
Earth Hour highlighted both the power of individuals and what can be achieved collectively when people act to affect change in a highly visible and engaging way. Emirates Nature - WWF needed a microsite for Earth Hour in Arabic and English to post events and collect pledges as part of its Earth Hour campaign from those who expressed a desire to take action ‘beyond the hour’.
Our focus for this multilingual web project was focused on providing the best user experience on mobile and desktop. The site needed quick, clear paths to events and easy methods to register or make promises. Our web development experts developed a web application that increased conversion rate by a considerable amount.
In the UAE in 2018, numerous records were broken; 5,806 individuals signed up on the UAE Earth Hour website and committed their support, as did 341 organizations. The earthour.ae the website received 21,734 unique visitors, representing a 96% increase over 2017. In total, 20,666 pledges of support were collected from individuals and organizations. We also provided data collection and analysis of event registrants, demographics data intelligence, and data analytics support. Our analytics reports offer critical information on the users’ behavior on the website – highlighting top-performing pages, growth, and more.
The web application was hosted on a highly scalable and resilient platform based on AWS Lambda and DynamoDB that ensured 100% uptime and minimal cost to handle traffic from multiple channels including online advertising, print media, television, radio, and SMS campaigns.
